April 27-May 1, 2020

Hello! I'm so looking forward to seeing all of you in our meetings this week, even if it's on Zoom! I've got a lot of information for you on this post. May is usually a crazy time at school and it looks like that is not going to be any different as we end the year virtually.

Flex learning, Zoom calls, communication logs, oh my!

Housekeeping Items:

-Grade Reports will be mailed within the next week.

  • Comments - As this is the last communication we have with parents this year, each homeroom teacher please check that you have included end-of-year positive comments to wrap-up. Also, we need to proofread each if you didn't as these are official grade cards.

  • Special services teachers may email Stacey your progress reports to attach with grade cards.

-Suggestions for next school year - We had a lot of things that went well this year and also many ideas for improvement to make our building stronger. As I don't remember all of these, I've created this form to collect your input. Please, share your ideas or suggestions on the form as they come to you. I will plan to leave it open throughout the summer.

-Student Placement - Please share your team input re: student needs for next school year (suggested student separations, possibly moving, special things to consider, etc). This will be especially important to add since our year end conversations are not getting to happen as well.

-Postcards - We've made a lot of phone calls and sent many emails. Another great way to make weekly contact with our students is to send a postcard. Students love to get mail! The postcards are still set-up outside the bus entrance in a milk crate, if you'd like to reach out this way one week. I'm happy to mail them for you when returned.

-Team leaders - Please complete your portion of our expectations document by Wednesday.

As we look to May:

-Phase 3 learning will begin on May 4. Further details will come this week during our content and team meetings.

-Teacher belongings/closing up the building/check-out: Obviously, this process will look much different this year as we continue to maintain social distancing. I will have a schedule and additional check-out details communicated by the end of the week to sign up for a day to come in and close up things for the summer. A few things to be thinking about:

  • Dates will be the week of May 4 and May 11 with the goal of everyone being done May 15. Times will be from 8 am-8 pm each week day.

  • Only 1 teacher per day will be allowed in each area of the building. You may bring one other adult with you to help with moving items, etc. if needed. Unfortunately, we will not be allowed to bring children with us.

  • We will have gloves supplied, but ask that you bring a mask to wear as we have a very limited supply.

  • We will try our best to have some boxes available for packing, but if you are not returning next year you may want to start gathering some too.

-Student belongings return -

  • No students or parents will be allowed in the building.

  • Teachers will be responsible for bagging all student belongings from their locker and classroom. Then, putting them in the commons area alphabetically for distribution.

  • Although it has not been communicated to the public yet, distribution will likely take place on May 18 and 20. Times TBA. We will need some volunteers during this time to obtain items from the commons, be runners, and assist with the car line as families come through to pick up. We'll have a sign up sheet for this before then.

Hope you have a great week!
