Nuts and Bolts Items:
-Counselor Appreciation Week for Mrs. Johnson
-Team meetings -Please let us know if you'd like Shawnda or Stacey to attend your meeting this week.
-Valentine’s Day class party - Our Valentine’s Day class parties will be scheduled for our early out day, Feb. 12. Parties should be around the 30 min. window. This is just around the corner if you plan to reach out to parents for support in sending in items. Here is a couple resources with fun ideas: here, here, and here.
-School Board Appreciation Week is Feb. 15. We would really appreciate having a couple classes create posters, letters, video, etc. to honor them. If you have them to the office by the 16th, we'll make sure they are delivered to them at our school board meeting.
-Books to Love competition - Don't forget to encourage your students to participate in our competition and read more books! Whose class will be our winner?!
-COVID tracking - Please be sure to keep seating charts and homebound support log accurate. Thankfully our numbers are currently looking better, but we've ran into a couple recent issues with contact tracing due to these not being updated.
Adult Learning Weekly Blog Spot:
Earlier this week, I was asked by someone how to motivate kids who do not necessarily want to work. It was tough for me to answer, and I've actually passed a class called Motivating At Risk Students. Motivation is so difficult! It is such a complex issue, and there is no simple solution. So complex, actually, that it was really hard to find simple resources to share. We're going to go with this 10 minute TED Talk, which really doesn't offer solutions, but can hopefully get you thinking about why some things aren't working. I also have this ridiculously long book chapter that is 24 pages long, but still way better than the scholarly articles that we could have included! I'm not crazy enough to think you will read/watch all of this today, or even this week, but the resources are in here in case you are struggling, the way my friend was, and I do have those scholarly articles, and possibly a whole book, if you are still looking for more! Seek first to understand... then we can be understood.
With your Accountability Partner this week, let's just check in and see where we are on our goals. Do we even remember what they were? Maybe this week is a good time to look at our accountability measures and think about if they are working to keep us on track. Or maybe we need more meaningful goals?
