Hello and welcome back! I sincerely hope that the holidays were wonderful for you and you've had a restful break. Some time to recharge and sharpen the saw can certainly do wonders and was very much needed for all! Here's to kicking off 2021 with a meaningful, yet uneventful ;), success!

Arrival: Breakfast: Stowe & Tree, Front: Bryant & Harron, Bus: Maddeaux

Dismissal: Maroon team (Bus- Bartels & Jessen, Front- Herron & Davis, Walkers-Douglas)

Mon. Library/Counseling Week: Next week will be B Week (*Bring Chromebooks to library!)

Dashboard Link - We’ve got a few new faces starting with us this semester, so wanted to include this link to our dashboard again. This is a one-stop place for all the documents and resources you will likely need!

STEM class location: Innovation Lab (**Note Ms. Harron has flipped her labs, so this is now on the 5th grade side!**)

Morning Announcements: Please add things you would like to have added to our morning announcements on the appropriate day.

WIS News:

In case you missed it, our Media Leaders created a slideshow from our Holiday Spirit Week…

Nuts and Bolts Items:

-Along with our new staff, Brittany and Courtnee, joining us today, please help me in welcoming two new student teachers that will be with us this semester:

  • Kayla Cross will be working with Mrs. Tait on the Green team.

  • Alizabeth Yakes will be working with Ms. Maddeaux on the Teal team.

-Seating charts: With a new semester and the start of specials session 1 again, it’s a time many are likely making changes to their class and lunch seating charts. It’s very important to make sure the most up-to-date and accurate information is listed in your team folder and communicated to specials teachers! (These can be found on the dashboard under COVID.)

-Grade card reminders as they are due Wed. morning:

  • Comments should be included and Q2 NEWEST listed FIRST. Do not delete Q1 as this is part of their record.

  • Each homeroom teacher should proofread their entire HR grade reports once all on your team have entered grades/comments to ensure all of them are complete and accurate (ie. typos/misspellings, student name/teacher at top, same standards assessed for each student, special services students have notation if no grade given, behavior scores, etc.)

  • Final reports go home on FRIDAY with students. We will try our best to get them printed and delivered to homeroom teachers on Thursday though.

-Team meetings - As we get back into the swing of things, we won’t plan to attend team meetings this week unless there’s something you need. Please be sure to add notes to your team meeting documents re: items discussed.

-Club Proposal - If you would like to offer a safe and socially distanced club for 2nd semester, please complete this proposal first for approval and to get it on the calendar.

-Tutoring - Which students on your team could benefit extra support? With grade reports going home this week, it’s a perfect time to reach out to parents about getting this set up. Our goal is for each team to offer tutoring 2 times a week this semester and it’s a great opportunity to work on those reading goals or math skills.

-Late Start Schedule - If your team didn’t take a look at this, please make sure you don’t see any problems/errors for your team. If you do, let Stacey know!

Adult Learning Weekly Blog Spot:

I hope everyone had a relaxing and recharging break! Of course there's no trash this week, so I'm going to use my platform for personal gain! haha One of the ways I self care is through service to others. I'm not sure many people realize that self-care does not always just involve "self". Service recharges my batteries just as much as reading a good book or getting a facial.

Many of you know I am connected to a service group for the homeless in our community. Over the break, I learned that they are providing meals for close to 200 homeless/food insecure individuals every day! Prior to the holidays, EVERYONE wants to help with something, but that means January is particularly bleak. They had several un-filled days for January meals, so I committed to two of them. I'm hoping you guys will help with at least one! If you are interested, please fill out the attached survey and I will work out details and get back to you about how you can help! My dates are the 17th and 30th, so toward the end of the month. If you can't add one more thing to your plate this month, please don't stress! You guys aren't my only group to hit up, and if we don't have enough people here, I know there are several at North that also self-care through service.

And, if service is your recharge, and you're looking for ways to be involved, connect with me! I'd be interested to learn how others serve, and happy to plug you into my go to groups!

Teaching Takeaway:

A great resource this week for you and one you can use with your students to start the new year....

The 7 Habits of Highly Affective Teachers - Making emotional health an intentional habit for both students and ourselves can pay off dividends for school culture and our own well-beings. This is a great article from ASCD with lots of good information to reflect on!

Welcome 2021 Student Activity Ideas - Thanks to @MsBDuncan on Twitter for sharing this great slide deck of warm-up activities to do with your students and ease the transition back from break. It's such an important time to focus on the culture and relationships in your classroom this week! She's got lots of other great slide decks or Jamboard templates if you want to give her a follow!
