-Water Challenge begins this week - 31st: Don’t forget to update your water intake. PE patrol students will be around on T/Th to count ounces. For additional details re: prizes, etc. see Coach Bennett’s email Jan. 9.
-Primary School Picture: Stacey would like to have a picture of you as a student, preferably in primary school if possible. This may be a copy and/or we will get the original back to you! Please turn in to Stacey or the main office. We don’t need this for a bit, but wanted to get the word out so you could start looking for one!

-End of year calendar dates to get on calendar: It’s time to get the end of the year dates on the calendar (ie. Field trips, field day, 6th year end party, etc.).
-MSU practicum students: FYI - We will have several students begin a practicum with us next week. They will be here daily for the first week. Then, either on Tues. or Thurs. for the remainder of the semester. The students will also be staying after school from 4-5:30 pm these days for class. Their college professors will come to our building. This is a little different than previously, but we’re excited to have this partnership! Teachers who will have a practicum student should receive communication no later than Wed.
-Yearbook cover design: Students have until Feb. 15. See full details here. They go on sale this week!
-Kudos to you being on top of things and reading the blog well, take a jeans day on Tuesday to ease back into things after a 3-day weekend!
-Reminder: Secret Pal gifts begin next week for 2nd semester.
-House of Leaders:
Name slips for drawings: You should receive a master copy of the ‘ticket’ for students to write their name on when they earn 5 coins Tuesday. By Thursday morning at 10:00 am, please make sure all students who have earned a chance in the drawing are able to enter. The boxes are at the office doors. (*If you have already had them do this on different paper, that is ok.)
We will plan to do a drawing for at least one of the rewards this Friday! We had planned to wait until the end of the month, but the students are doing so well we want to keep the momentum going.
Please create a system in class for when you will check coins and give out drawing slips so that it doesn’t frequently impact class time. As you give students the paper to put in drawing, use a Sharpie to mark off the 5 coins on their grid. Each 5 coins = 1 name in drawing of their choice. They will also receive a class coin to contribute to their classroom grid too.
Class Coins: If you see a WHOLE class doing a great job and want to give out a coin, don’t forget you can give a CLASS COIN rather than all kids an individual coin. Just let their teacher know to add it to their class grid. This may be a better way to do it for all!
Class Rewards: We are aware all classes have earned a class reward and even some have got it twice! Awesome!! Our student lighthouse team will finalize the spinning wheel this week. Once this is done, we’ll let you know so you can bring your class down to spin. The wheel will also be displayed near the drawing boxes at that time.
Here is the staff presentation with details we discussed if you need to refer to it.
Please ask if you have any questions!
Teaching Tips and Tidbits:
How are things coming on your team with new WIG Goals and the Leadership portfolios? For your WIG goals, don’t forget about all the resources Brooke Taylor shared in the email dated Jan. 6. The Achieve Goals action team shared this goal sheet, updated scoreboard, etc. They are a great resource and even offered to come model for your class at lead time. We would like to see the scoreboards displayed soon. Your team is welcome to use the black glass boards in each grade level hallway too! If you’d like help from our Goal Setters, let Michelle Sechler know.
Also, you can find the Leadership Portfolio resources on the Dashboard under Leader in Me or here. Goal setting and the leadership portfolios are 2 of our building-wide goals this year and we plan to share these at our spring conferences. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the action teams, Samantha or I for any support your team would like. We are here to help!
