WIS News:

Nuts and Bolts Items:

-Team meeting topics for this week:

  • As a team, identify 1-2 reading standards (previously taught) where your students have the greatest room for growth. Evidence could be based on report cards and/or 1st semester data from class/iTime. This information will be used to guide our focus for learning next week.

  • Don't forget to be updating your iTime reading goal data/logs.

  • Stacey and/or Shawnda are happy to attend if you have any questions or want us too!

-Drama Llamas - Will begin Jan. 26 in the music room. Permission slips may be picked up in the commons or on the website and must be turned in to the office ASAP. There will be a limit of 30. First come, first serve! Teams will stay in groups during club.

-Club Proposal - If you would like to offer a safe and socially distanced club for 2nd semester, please complete this proposal first for approval and to get it on the calendar.

-Band info meetings on Friday: Classes will sit in separate sections on the bleachers to maintain social distancing, still in their groups as best as possible. Maroon team - Please have students bring their backpacks as they will dismiss from the gym at 3:29 pm.

-Homebound support/class seating charts - Just a reminder to make sure you are updating these for an accurate record!

-RTI/MTSS student support - 3rd quarter can often times become a difficult time when students slide and our team interventions may not be as effective. If your team has a new student you would like to refer to our RTI team, please complete the initial paperwork and give to Beth Johnson.

Adult Learning Weekly Blog Spot:

A few weeks ago, there was a note in the trash can venting frustration over the fact that the ones that complain the most often seem to be the same people that are not making any changes to help improve the situation. This was a "just want to be heard" message, but it has stuck with me as something that also needs to be addressed. Toxic positivity is the new buzzword, particularly in education, and it is a very real thing, but there is also danger in focusing on the negative without looking toward making changes.

If you look at the 7 Habits and our training, one important takeaway is the ability to acknowledge the problem, and then figure out how to solve it. The "leader" part comes in our personal responsibility to take part in the solution seeking. The paradigm shift to "Change starts with me" is the most crucial step in this process. Check out this article on the benefits and pitfalls of complaining. Benefits AND Pitfalls... both... complaining is not always bad! We don't have dedicated accountability partner time this week, so, on your own, think about ONE step you can take to address your biggest complaint. Really focus on your personal circle of control. We encourage our students to Be the Change... let's lead by example! And don't forget that the trash can is a safe place to vent your frustrations in a way that will not drag down the people around you. Take advantage of that! Sometimes your frustration can lead to action!
