WIS-South Staff Updates: Apr. 6, 2020

Happy Monday! I hope everyone is doing alright and making it at home. As we're all getting quite a few emails right now, I thought I'd try to start putting our updates here so that you have a one-stop place to refer. I don't have a lot of new updates right now, but here's a few things to know about or that you can be focusing on this week below. As always, don't hesitate to reach out to me if you need anything at all or have questions!

Calendar Items

Tuesday, April 7 @ 6:30 pm- Staff Trivia Night

Housekeeping Items

-Please be sure your team is checking in with families routinely. Communication at a minimum once a week, maximum three times and ideally as a group to minimize the amount they are receiving.

  • This week's check-in could include follow-up to the choice menu in case there are questions and share this week's virtual spirit week. (Thank you David for creating it!)

  • Students you still haven't been able to make contact with? Let's try to reach out again this week and then update contact log of needs/concerns. There's some we're worried about! If we've made contact, I've tried to let you know or update the class spreadsheet.

  • District expectation is that teachers respond within 24 hours to any parent communication.

  • Don't forget to share/copy Stacey on your communication (group emails, virtual invites, Seesaw, resources, etc.).

  • Let specials teachers know about when your team is doing Zoom meetings. I've had a couple reach out missing students and they'd love to jump on with you if they can!

-Summative Evaluations

  • All teachers should have completed the teacher input and Talent Ed teacher self-reflection form. If you haven't, please get those to Stacey in the next few days.

-District growth hours - All certified employees need to complete 6 hours of professional learning. Please go ahead and document this in Talent Ed to get checked off the list.

  • Don't forget most of us attended the Leader in Me training this past summer that we can include- Launching Leadership on May 28, 2019

  • Still need hours? There are a couple PD opportunities to check out below.

-PD plans

  • I will be approving these so they come back to you for editing. Please look over your goals and update your growth verification as best you can. Then, sign and submit again for final signature.

-Student Learning Objectives (SLO) in Talent Ed

  • Most have set goals early on this year, but were waiting on end of year data. If you're able to complete this, please go ahead using the most recent data you have.

  • Specials teachers - Shawnda or I will get with you soon about this if you don't have one yet.

-Instructional Excellence

  • Please go ahead and update your logs as an end date of March 13. In the event we do not go back to school, payment will be given for hours through this date.

-Grade Reports

  • All should be updated with final comments, proofed and ready for printing before April 24.

-Due to the current circumstances, district office has frozen all budgets at this time.

-Teacher Contracts - These should be coming to you soon.

-MSTA member renewal - Members should have received an email today to digitally renew for next year's payroll deductions. Let Kim Harron know if you have any questions.

-Last day of school: Due to the number of days missed, whether we return or not, our last official day of school will now be MAY 22.

-Staff Family Cookbook - Got a great recipe? Be sure to include it in our first ever staff cookbook. (Thank you Samantha for organizing this!)

-Inventory - Working on templates for you of what was in your class spaces to start the year. This should make it much easier to complete. More information will be coming, so no need to do anything now.

-Professional Learning opportunities:

  • Trauma-Informed Resilient Schools, 6 hour training (Really good training usually $199-currently free)

  • Conscious Discipline - Currently offering their premium resource membership for free. Many training videos and resources, including a 3 session trauma webinar

  • "Help for Billy" author, Jennifer Forbes on-demand courses (code: thistooshallpass) are free until April 9 (?)

-Thank you to Mr. Stockton and our media leaders who are working from home for continuing our news! This week's episode:
