January 2-6, 2023

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

We are so fortunate all students and staff are healing well after the terrible incident on the playground on the 20th. A big thank you to all who donated or shared with others for them. This made it possible for us to give the 3 staff and 3 students injured monetary support to help towards expenses and hopefully make their holiday break a little better while they were healing.

The timing of our break was a blessing for healing, but we also know it is going to take time and understanding to help everyone at school work through the incident. Keeping our normal routine is often the best next step, so we will do that as best as possible. However, please know we are also looking to have support available on Wed. at recess time if there are some students who may be anxious, need support and assurance. We will keep you posted on Tuesday as these plans are confirmed.

  • Arrival – Breakfast: C. Taylor, Dunning, Berger; Front: Stowe; Bus: Surber

WIS shared picture folder: Please add your school pictures throughout the year. We’d love to have lots to choose from for the yearbook!

Nuts and Bolts Items:

-5th DARE will begin next Monday, Jan. 9. See schedule here. Some of the times/transitions are very tight, so it is important for all specials, library/counseling and classroom teachers to be aware. (ie. Classes may go straight from gym/library to DARE, lunch, etc.).

-Strategic Planning Stakeholder Input: Next Wed., Jan. 11 we will have a consulting firm on site to meet with all staff to seek input as we begin to look at the development of our next District Strategic Plan. See your group meeting time and additional information:

  • Tentative Schedule-Wed., Jan. 11 (Location: Meeting Room #1 in office)

    • Beginning stages of draft schedule and should be completed by next Monday. Please let me know if you have a preference of time to meet! Desire to meet in small groups, rather than 1-1.

  • Discussion questions copy

  • Additional information can be found in our last Staff Communicator email on Dec. 21.

  • Goal is a relaxed conversation, names not necessary as they are looking for districtwide trends.

-House of Leaders kick-off: Don’t forget we are kicking off our focus and encouragement of expected behaviors with our coins!

  • Here is the staff presentation with details we discussed.

  • Have a plan for how your team and class will be sharing this information with students. We are the ones that make this a success through our participation, encouragement and focus!

  • It’s important to also go over the ROAR expectations again - what do we expect it to look like? sound like? What specific class procedures and expectations do you also need to review or focus on improving? This is a GREAT time to shore these things up!

  • Coins - If we missed you, let us know and we’ll get you a roll of stickers. Everyone should have one to hand out!

  • Incentives - You will soon see in the commons some of the building incentives students can put their name in a drawing to get!

  • Class grids and student grid sheets will be delivered to you in the next couple of days if you don’t already have one.

  • Please ask if you have any questions!

-Community Time: We will work on rescheduling this in January and update you as soon as the Student Leadership team has it.
